Entranced by the rich colours of the blue heath-land butterflies fluttering against the sun, drenched hues of grasses and heather of a later summer evening in Shropshire, England.
Catherine's set herself a task to replicate this image as a textural embroidered piece. Firstly, using reverse needle felting techniques on hand dyed gauze for the background, giving it the hazy feel of the summer evening.
The glittering grasses were created with metallic threads and silk ribbon, the heath-land foreground built up with textural thread stitching, and beaded-wire techniques added for the heather plantings. Diaphanous Blue Butterflies were created in hand-dyed silk organzas to complete this exciting heath land scene.
